Common pathology tests include:
- Blood tests – for example cholesterol, blood glucose and full blood count
- Urine tests – such as kidney function assessment and infection screening
- Swabs and cultures – including throat, wound and STI testing
- Other specialised tests – arranged as needed based on your doctor’s recommendations
What to expect
- Referral: Your GP will decide which tests are appropriate and provide a referral form.
- Collection: Many samples can be collected on-site, or you may be directed to a nearby pathology collection centre.
- Results: Results are sent back to your GP. You may be asked to book a follow-up appointment to go through them, or they may be reviewed at your next visit.
- Ongoing care: Pathology testing is often part of regular reviews for conditions like diabetes, thyroid problems and high cholesterol, helping us keep your treatment on track.
